In the June 2014 cover article of Theatre Topics, "Playing Jewish at the National Asian American Theatre Company," author Lisa Silberman Brenner examines two NAATCO productions, including its 2009 world premiere production of School of Drama Senior Artist in Residence Karen Hartman's Leah's Train. Both the productions examined, Leah's Train and Clifford Odets's Awake and SIng!, are of Jewish subjects and Jewish characters performed by all-Asian American casts.

Brenner's essay invites discussion about racial representation and the implications of performing across racial lines, a topic trending locally and nationally.
