Ali Pour Issa is a first year PhD student at the School of Drama at the University of Washington. He graduated from the Yale School of Drama with an MFA in Dramaturgy and Dramatic Criticism in 2011. Also, he received an M.A. in Dramatic Literature and Criticism from the University of Tehran in 2006, and a B.A. in Scene Design from Islamic Azad University, Central Tehran Branch in 2003. He has worked as a university instructor, theater director, playwright, editor-in-chief, stage designer, scriptwriter, short and documentary filmmaker, and visual artist in Iran, the U.K., and the U.S. He has been a permanent member of the Dramatists’ Guild, since 2005, a permanent member of the Directors’ Guild, House of Theater in Iran since 2007, and a member of Literary Managers and Dramaturgs of the Americas since 2011. His last two conference participations about the Iranian drama and theater were at Hong Kong Baptist University and University of Massachusetts Amherst. He has edited several journals and currently a regional managing editor of Iran at The Theatre Times on-line magazine. His short narrative film, Cold Ground, has been selected in eleven international festivals in Europe and North America; the notable festivals include the 8th Annual European Independent Film Festival in Paris, the 16th Annual Sonoma International Film Festival in California, the 20 Annual Twin Rivers Media Festival in North Carolina, the 30th International Long Island Film Festival in New York. It was awarded a diploma from the 41st Festival of Nations in Austria. He was a submission judge for the 9th Annual European Independent Film Festival. He made a documentary film about the contemporary Iranian theater, Unheard Voices. His short narrative film, Bahar (spring) was received the Lenzing Award from the Festival of Nations and the Gold Award for the film, the Special Award for Remarkable Directing at Walser International Film Festival in 2015. In addition, Bahar (Spring) has been selected in Mykonos Biennale in Greece, the CineAid Film Festival in US, Kurzfilme-am-freitag in Germany, the Ras Al Khaimah Fine Arts Festival in the United Arab Emirates, and the 5th National Hasanat Film Festival in Iran. His recent film, The Ground Is breathing has been officially screened in nineteenth international festivals in Europe and North America and won several awards including the Special Mention Award in I Will Tell International Film Festival (London, UK), Winner of the Best Actress Category in Frame by Sound Festival (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic), Winner of the Best Film Award in the Gender Category in Woodpecker International Film Festival (New Delhi, India).
