Matthew Straus is currently a Doctoral Student in the School of Drama at the University of Washington. Matt received his BA in German Studies and Theatre, and his MA in German Studies from California State University, Long Beach. He was an Austrian Fulbright English Teaching Assistant in Schwechat and Bruck an der Leitha (2011-12). From 2009-2015, Matt taught German Studies courses on language, Büchner-Wedekind-Brecht, and contemporary media and culture at California State University, Long Beach. He directed an all-student production of Woyzeck for the German Studies Conference “Wanted? Georg Büchner 1813—1837—2013” at California State Univeristy, Long Beach. In 2015, he taught "Werkstatt: Brecht" at Die Deutsche Sommerschule von New Mexico. His research interests include Brechtian performance techniques in foreign language pedagogy and developments of Verfremdungseffekte in American Musicals.
