The University of Washington School of Drama invites you to an important conversation featuring Peter Sellars and Marc Bamuthi Joseph, moderated by Ed Taylor, ’94, Vice Provost and Dean of Undergraduate Academic Affairs.

This event will explore the role of art during times of political and social division, emphasizing art’s ability to foster interconnectivity, collective memory, and belonging.

About the Speakers:
Marc Bamuthi Joseph is a spoken word artist, writer, and cultural strategist, and former Director of Social Impact at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. He is a 2017 TED Global Fellow and recipient of the Guggenheim Social Practice Initiative. In 2022, he was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

Peter Sellars is a renowned opera, theatre, and festival director celebrated for groundbreaking interpretations of classical music and collaborations with artists such as John Adams and Kaija Saariaho. He is a recipient of the MacArthur Fellowship, Erasmus Prize, and Polar Music Prize, and is internationally recognized for his leadership in using the arts as a platform for social and moral action.

Moderator:
Ed Taylor, ’94, is Vice Provost and Dean of Undergraduate Academic Affairs at the University of Washington. He oversees university-wide educational initiatives designed to deepen and enhance the undergraduate experience.
