In the Press: David Armstrong on Broadway Nation

Submitted by Courtney D Clark on

UW News recently highlighted David Armstrong, affiliate instructor of drama, in a feature about his new book, Broadway Nation: How Immigrant, Jewish, Queer, and Black Artists Invented the Broadway Musical. In the interview, Armstrong reflects on Broadway’s history, its power to shape American life, and the recurring themes of equity, inclusion, and community at the heart of so many musicals.

Inspired by his popular UW course, the book explores how Broadway’s most influential works were created by artists working outside the cultural mainstream — voices that transformed American theater and continue to resonate today.
