Biography
ʻAnoʻai me ke aloha! Noelani Montas (she/her/ʻo ia) is a proud Kanaka Maoli and Dominicana artist from Southern California. As a performer and designer for theatre and live performance, her work focuses on culturally-centered productions, where she is especially excited to engage with Indigenous languages and storytelling onstage. Select works include: Puana – UHM Kennedy Theatre Mainstage (Lighting & Projection Design), Glitter in the Paʻakai – UHM Earle Ernst Lab Theatre (ʻĀnela), Primero Sueño – Repertorio Español (Scenic & Lighting Design), and La Extinción de los Dinosaurios – Repertorio Español (Scenic & Lighting Design). She is a recipient of the 2024 Creative West BIPOC Artist Fund, the Design Action Roots & Futures Microgrant, and the 2021 Pat Mackay Diversity in Design Award. Noelani is a member of Wingspace Theatrical Design and Design Action, and is an artist on the Indigenous Creatives Roster hosted by yəhaw̓ and Friends of Waterfront Park.
