Syllabus Description (from Canvas):

Scene Painting is an introduction to visual techniques essential to realizing a production design for the performing arts. It is a study of the materials and methods of the scenic artist and covers cartooning, understanding color, painting techniques, and finishes needed for translating a paint elevation/rendering to full scale scenery.

Learning outcomes: Skills in and knowledge of craft, methods, and use of materials of technical production painting & finishing. Ability to communicate about scenic work in relation to other parts of the production.

Unit/class objectives: Use a variety of scenic tools and techniques to paint theatrical scale/style finishes and effects. Reverse engineer painting process from finished image/rendering.

Catalog Description:
Lecture-laboratory with focus on techniques and principles of scene painting. Uses of various media and types of equipment as applicable to varied scenic pieces.
