Monica and Guillaume at GeekGirlCon

On Sunday, October 1st, UW School of Drama PhD students Monica Cortés Viharo and Guillaume Tourniaire appeared on a panel entitled Beyond the Stage: Exploring Theater Fandom at the 6th Annual GeekGirlCon in downtown Seattle. Moderated by freelance pop culture journalist Lisa Granshaw, the panel also included Melissa Anelli, producer of BroadwayCon. The afternoon's discussion included subjects such as violence on stage, musical theater history, non-traditional casting, digital platforms for building fan communities, and the impact of Lin-Manuel Miranda and the musical Hamilton. In fact, last year Guillaume and Monica appeared on a GeekGirlCon panel devoted entirely to the Hamilton phenomenon.
