Ricky German, Costume Shop Manager, reflects on the completion of a transformative plan designed to enhance hands-on learning for MFA costume designers.
“Our five-year plan focused on creating a practical and dynamic learning environment for MFA costume designers and revitalizing our decades-old costume stock was a key part of that vision. This resource isn’t just a collection of garments—it’s a co-star in productions across UW and the Seattle theatre community.
KD Schill, a pillar in Seattle’s costume community with experience at Seattle Rep, ACT Theatre, Erickson Theatre Off Broadway at Seattle Central Community College, and Seattle Shakespeare, to name a few, joined us during the pandemic to help modernize our stock. Now, as our temporary Stock Manager/Wardrobe Head, she is ensuring that students gain invaluable experience working with two critical roles in costume design: stock management and wardrobe supervision.”
