DRAMA 251 A: Acting
An Introduction to the Foundations of Acting

This introductory course offers a practical immersion into the foundational elements of acting, with a focus on the American "method" tradition. Designed as a condensed, workshop-style intensive, Drama 251 A meets four days a week and invites students to engage deeply with core acting principles in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. Through guided composition exercises, vocal and physical explorations, and text-based work with modern theatrical material, students will develop the essential tools of truthful performance. Whether working individually on monologues or collaboratively on scenes, participants will build a vocabulary for analyzing text, cultivating presence, and making bold, specific choices onstage. No prior acting experience is required—only curiosity, commitment, and a willingness to take creative risks.
