The University of Washington School of Drama (SoD) is hiring a Technical Director and Scene Shop Manager.  This is a full-time position. The salary range for this position will be $5,946 - $7,400 per month ($71,352 to $88,800 annually), commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

 

We are interested in candidates that possess expertise in technical theater, a passion for engaging with students, strong organizational and management skills, and a commitment to fostering equity and inclusion within the theater community.

We are particularly enthusiastic about applicants whose background and/or experience has included, but is not limited to, the following positive factors for consideration:

  • Expertise in technical theater.
  • A master's degree related to theatre production/technical theater.
  • A passion for engaging with students.
  • Strong organizational and management skills.
  • A demonstrated commitment to fostering equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility within the production department and the School of Drama community.
  • Experience/knowledge related to lighting, sound, projections, costumes.
  • Advanced proficiency in CAD drafting software, ability to generate detailed and accurate drawings, and to advise staff and students in the creation of the same.
  • Experience within an academic institution and/or educational organization.
  • Knowledge of basic electrical systems as well as advanced circuit and control systems.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Eagerness to engage in the goals and values presented in the School of Drama’s Mission, Vision, Values, and Commitments.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in theater, technical theater, or related
  • Two or more years of experience in live event production, including knowledge related to scenery, props, and theatrical
