Production Photo from Iphigenia and Other Daughters

Last Friday we started this season with a bang on our opening night of Iphigenia and Other Daughters by Ellen McLaughlin. This re-imagined version of the Fall of the House of Atreus packs a punch with strong direction from UW alumna Marya Sea Kaminski, powerful performances by our graduate and undergraduate actors, and stunning design from MFA and BA designers.

Professor Mark Jenkins wrote, "One of the very best shows I've seen in my 25 years at UW! Do yourself a favor and go see this."

Dear Readers,

I am so excited to have put together this Fall 2016 issue of The Through-Line. I am a new addition to the staff at the School of Drama, but by no means am I new to the community. I graduated from the BA program in 2012 and since that time I have dedicated my time to making and supporting theatre and the arts. I am absolutely thrilled to be returning to the School of Drama, especially in a year where we are continuing to produce bold, engaging, and poignant work.

Anders Peterson in rehearsal for DEBATE

Anders Peterson is here to make politics fun, and funny, again. Anders, who is a BA earning his degree in English and Political Science, is directing the first show of the UTS season, Debate (an Improvised Comedy). This full-length improvised performance takes the structure of the presidental debates we know so well, and turns them on their head. Two fictionalized presidential candidates go head to head on issues, and at the end of the performance, the audience has to elect the next leader of the United States of America.  As someone who follows politics closely, Anders couldn't...

Professor L. Zane Jones is staying busy this year. Before she directs Sarah Ruhl's Orlando for the School of Drama mainstage this spring, she is directing the revolutionary new opera As One. As One tells the story of a transwoman's journey to self-understanding. With only two singers, and performing at Washington Hall in Seattle's central district, this intimate experience will be an entirely new type of opera for many.
