Biography

M.A., Performing Arts, Hongik University, 2020
B.A., English Language and Literature, Chung-Ang University, 2017

Jieun Lee envisions her work as bridging pedagogy and praxis, seeking to grow as a scholar-educator-artist who brings multifaceted perspectives to performance. She is proud to be part of the PhD program at the University of Washington and looks forward to developing her work in dialogue with scholars and artists in the field. Before beginning her doctoral studies, she taught ACT (Action, Communication, and Teamwork) courses at Chung-Ang University and acting courses at Seoul Institute of the Arts. She earned her MA in Performing Arts from Hongik University, where her thesis examined female subjectivity in the Korean musical Red Book. Her research interests include feminist performance theory, Asian musical theatre, and the intersections of gender, subjectivity, and performance practice. Drawing on her experience as both performer and educator, Lee seeks to bridge theory and practice, expand feminist perspectives in global theatre studies, and foster more inclusive spaces for performance and education.
