Exit Juliet Pursued by Romeo: Exploring Storytelling Shifts in Explicit Stage Directions

Rogus, Amanda. "Exit Juliet Pursued by Romeo: Exploring Storytelling Shifts in Explicit Stage Directions,” CEA Critic, John Hopkins University Press, vol. 81, no. 3, November 2019, pp. 274-280.

Abstract:

"They fight … Kisses Juliet … Drinks … Dies. The story of Romeo's suicide at the end of Shakespeare's famous love story includes these six words expressed in the stage directions. Early modern scholars may miss the importance of such staging directions due to their sparse presence. However, the brevity shown here tells the story solely through Romeo's actions.
