It is 1727 in the rural Scottish Highlands, and a new witch-hunting sheriff has just come into town. Janet Horne, widowed mother and claimed witch, fights for her survival in a world that has beaten her down and cast her aside. This dark, dramatic tale of terror, defiance, and sacrifice explores one point in the long history of the institutional demonization of women who viciously assert their agency. The Last Witch examines the deepest recesses of our morality and our definition of truth.
