At the University of Washington School of Drama, the fusion of academic rigor and practical experience defines our approach to theater education. Production activities lie at the heart of our programs, serving as the crucible for MFA actors, directors, and designers to refine their professional skills. Simultaneously, our produced season offers BA students invaluable experiential learning opportunities, both onstage and behind the scenes, encompassing roles for performers, designers, stage managers, and crew members in all areas. The department prides itself on fostering creativity, innovation, and a deep understanding of the theatrical arts, in a uniquely blended learning environment for both graduate and undergraduate students. Additionally, students have the opportunity to hone their craft in two historic venues: The Floyd and Delores Jones Playhouse, known for its intimate setting and rich history, and the Glenn Hughes Penthouse Theater, celebrated as one of the first arena stages in the United States. These iconic theaters not only serve as educational spaces but also connect students to the vibrant legacy of theatrical performance at the University of Washington.
