Biography
Anita Montgomery, dramaturg and director, is also a jazz/blues/folk singer, teaching artist, and arts administrator. She is currently Literary Manager at ACT in Seattle. For ACT, Anita created the Young Playwrights Program (YPP), which teaches the craft of playwriting to Seattle-area middle and high school students, and she manages ACT's New Play Award and New Works for the American Stage commissioning programs. She has served as dramaturg for projects at ACT, Cornish College of the Arts and Hedgebrook Women Playwrights Festival, and has taught and/or directed for ACT, Book-it, Jack Straw Productions, Seattle Center Academy, Seattle Children's Theatre, Theater Schmeater, Youth Theatre North West, and in several area public schools. Anita attended the University of Texas at Austin and received her BFA in acting in 1979. She is a founding member of the Pendragon Theatre Company in the Adirondack Park of New York State and has two children, Hazel and Gabriel.
