KUOW recently featured a segment regarding the diversification of Seattle’s art scene, which includes an interview with School of Drama Professor Valerie Curtis-Newton.

Curtis-Newton was recently tapped by Intiman Theatre to co-curate their summer festival devoted to plays written by African-American women.

The piece focuses on local artists like Curtis-Newton and Specturm Dance Theatre’s Donald Byrd who are looking to “shake up the conversations about race in this country” as well as cast more artists of color and attract racially diverse audiences.
