Submitted by Courtney D Clark on December 12, 2024 - 1:33pm

We are thrilled to celebrate the recent achievement of Dr. Stefka G. Mihaylova, Associate Professor of Theatre Theory and Criticism at the University of Washington.

Her groundbreaking book, Viewers in Distress: Race, Gender, Religion, and Avant-Garde Performance at the Turn of the 21st Century (University of Michigan Press), received an honorable mention for the Barnard Hewitt Award for Outstanding Research in Theatre Scholarship at the most recent American Society for Theatre Research (ASTR) Conference this past November.

This prestigious recognition highlights Dr. Mihaylova’s profound contributions to the field of theatre scholarship, specifically her critical exploration of how race, gender, and religion intersect with avant-garde performance practices in the 21st century.

Congratulations to Dr. Mihaylova on this well-deserved honor!
