Syllabus Description:

DRAMA 491: Puppetry

Puppetry is very much alive in the world - and it is not just for children!  In this class we will be exploring modern puppetry in live performance.  You will learn about the field of puppetry from readings, interviews, video clips and entire films.  You will read, analyze and write about puppetry, as well as designing, building and performing with puppets.  Some of the forms we will explore include shadow puppetry, toy theatre, hand-and-rod puppets, and bunraku-style puppets.
