This course offers an overview of and engagement with community-based theatre practices. Emerging in the last few decades, community-based theatre, such as Cornerstone and PearlD?amour, works with local individuals and groups to create performance through interviews, oral history, and storytelling in a way that "generates complex, aesthetically intriguing and engaging productions and contributes to a growing discourse on the nature of community and identity? (Sonja Kuftinec). Students may take this course as a stand-alone or in conjunction with the 2015-16 PearlDamour project.
