Written by Mary Zimmerman
Adapted from The Book of the Thousand Nights and One Night
Directed by Leah Adcock-Starr
Leah Adcock-Starr, a student in our Professional Director Training Program (PDTP), will direct her first full-length feature production for the School of Drama. In Mary Zimmerman’s hypnotic play, The Arabian Nights, the audience is dazzled with a lush swirl of vibrant carpets, luxurious fabrics and shadowy lanterns. A beautiful world full of movement and music emerges as Scheherazade’s stories unfold from the secret crevices and dark shadows on stage. The alluring trappings of a Persian palace help transport audiences to another time and place where the young Scheherazade must weave a new story every night to postpone the death sentence imposed by her husband, King Shahryar.
Meet PDTP student and director Leah Adock-Starr as she reveals backstage secrets and shares her experiences during an opening night dinner at the UW Club on Friday, February 28. Dinner reservations are made through the UW Club at 206-543-0437 or uwclub@uw.edu.
A post-show talk will be held on Thursday, March 6.
